OUR COACHES

GARY NAKAMURA

Head Coach 18’s & 12’s
Gary has 35+ years of club volleyball experience. He assisted in running OCVBC for 27 years and during that time they amassed 27 age group championships. As a head coach, he has won the 18’s twice and the 16’s twice. His teams have finished in the Division 1 almost every year and had top 16 finishes in the post season. He also coached at Balboa Bay VBC where he won 2 Open Gold Medals for the 14U boys and 3 International 18U Open Championships. Gary is currently an assistant coach at Irvine Valley College. He was an assistant coach when they won the 1st Men’s State Championship and 1st Women’s State Championship. Gary has been an assistant there for 13 years.

Gary enjoys the outdoors and spends his free time golfing, surfing and being with friends.

Jared Britton

Head Coach 17’s & 14’s
Jared has been coaching volleyball for the last 7 years. He started out his coaching career as a middle school volleyball coach. Jared has been a member of the Orange Lutheran High School coaching staff for the last 4 seasons. At Orange Lutheran he has been an assistant for the boys and girl’s frosh-soph teams and in 2017. He also helped with the varsity team as they won a CIF championship that year. Throughout the last 3 seasons he has coached with OC Heat with the 12s, 14s and 15s. Jared recently graduated from Concordia University Irvine with a degree in Exercise and Sports Science with an emphasis in Kinesiology. He looks forward to bringing his knowledge and passion for volleyball to Clava Volleyball Club for the upcoming season.

Scott Bruce

Head Coach 16’s
Scott Bruce brings over 24 years of coaching experience to Clava Volleyball Club. He has coached at numerous clubs in Orange County and has led volleyball programs at Foothill, University and Laguna Hills High Schools. Scott has had a successful club coaching career as he has won the Volleyball Festival in both the 17s and the 14s divisions. Scott was honored in 2001 by being named the Orange County High School Coach of the Year.

Scott currently is a teacher at Heritage Christian School. Scott and his wife Kristan have been married for 19 years and are blessed with two sets of twins. Scott and his family live in Lake Forest and in his free time loves to go to the beach with his family and friends.

Thierry Lambert

Floater Coach
Thierry is originally from Brussels, Belgium and move to the United States in 1986. Thierry played club volleyball and in college. He started coaching volleyball when his daughter decided to play volleyball in 2007. Thierry is looking forward to start this new adventure with Clava Volleyball Club and is excited to be part of the family.

Callie Houlihan

Head Coach 15’s & 14’s
Callie Houlihan started playing volleyball at the young age of 10. She played a lot of sports throughout her years, but volleyball was always the most prominent in her heart. At Foothill High School she played all four years and also started playing club at TVC. Her coaching career started at TVC when she was only a high school freshman. From there, she has coached at a few different clubs and is excited to have ended up here at Clava Volleyball Club. Callie also coaches the girl’s JV team and assists the boys Varsity team at Crean Lutheran. She has been there for four amazing years and is looking forward to having a high school season. She is continuing her education at Santiago Canyon College while majoring in Sport Management with plans to transfer to a four-year college. Her goal is to become a full-time college recruiter and coach. Callie wants to share all of her knowledge and passion for volleyball with her young players and wants to make them the best person they can be on and off the court.

Ally Horner

Head Coach 15’s
Ally has been coaching for the last 4 years. She started playing volleyball her sophomore year of high school and went on to be a setter for Saddleback College in 2010-2012. Her passion for coaching comes from watching young players improve and develop a love for this amazing sport. She coaches in hopes to teach players more than just volleyball skills. When she’s not coaching, she plays in recreational volleyball leagues with friends for fun, and is in school studying to be in the medical field.

Eric Buss

Assistant Coach 13’s & Floater Coach
Eric has been a youth club coach for the past 6 years, most recently coaching a Girls 12-1s team with a local club organization. Eric played volleyball from an early age, spending the majority of his club years with the Torrance Volleyball Club in Los Angeles. Eric played all four years in High School as the Varsity Setter for the Palos Verdes Peninsula High School team; 3 years team MVP, 2 years First Team All-League, 1-year All-League MVP. He set in six consecutive Jr. Olympics, participating in the both the Quarter and Semi-finals and receiving both 1st and 2nd Team All-American awards. Eric was selected as a setter to the 18U US Olympic development program at the age of 17 until an unfortunate injury forced a reconsideration of his future in volleyball.

Eric chose to attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he met his wife Kerry their freshmen year and tried his hand with other “sports”; Rodeo Team, Cal Poly Bowling Team, and a one-year stint as Musty the Mustang (Cal Poly’s Mascot). Eric and Kerry have been married for 19 years, have two children (14 and 11), and have been residents of Rancho Santa Margarita for the past 15 years. Eric could not be more excited to join the Clava coaching team, co-coaching the 13-1s team.

Jessica Rezner

Assistant Coach 13’s & 12’s
Jessica Rezner’s volleyball career started when she was 10 years old. After a few years of playing for her elementary school, she made the transition to the club level where she competed for TCA. She attended Mater Dei High School, where she played both indoor and beach volleyball. She continued playing at Santiago Canyon College for two years, both as a libero and as a setter. As a setter in her second year she made First Team All-Conference. This will be Jessica’s first experience coaching at the club level at Clava Volleyball club. She is eager to share her enthusiasm and passion for the game with her team.

Riley Hausner

Head Coach 13’s & Assistant Coach 16’s
Riley Hausner began playing volleyball at the age of twelve in Saddleback Valley’s recreation program. After developing an immediate love for the game, she began her club career at Saddleback Valley Volleyball Club in eighth grade. Riley played at Trabuco Hills High School. During her freshmen year, she was named team MVP. She continued to play for SVVC through high school graduation. After high school she was recruited to play at Santiago Canyon College where she started for two years. In addition to being captain both of those seasons, Riley made First Team All-Conference her freshman year and Second Team All-Conference her sophomore year. She then transferred to Westcliff University and finished her playing career there. Riley’s coaching career began at Goldenwest Volleyball Club as an assistant for their 15-2s and their 14-1s team. Later, she began coaching for Saddleback Valley Volleyball Club’s VolleyHigh and Jr. Spikers program. The past two years Riley has coached at Saddleback as both an assistant and head coach. Her first year she assisted 13-1s, then assisted the 15-1s and was the head coach for the 12-1s. She is also beginning her second season as the head coach for the frosh/soph at Crean Lutheran High School. Riley is excited and honored to be coaching the 13-1s and assisting the 16-1s. She is thrilled to be a part of Clava Volleyball Club’s family and first year and cannot wait to see all the progress her players make!

Mark Metrakos

Head Coach 17’s & 18’s
Mark has played on 2 different Championship teams (2011 IVC State Championship, 2013 Concordia University Irvine NAIA National Championship) throughout his career as a middle blocker. He has nearly a decade of experience coaching girls and boys club teams from ages 10-18. Some of these clubs include TStreet, Saddleback, Club Cactus, OCVC, Balboa Bay, Aliso Island VBC, and others. His experience and high energy brings teams together and pushes each player to be their very best on and off the court. Mark is extremely excited to be a part of Clava VBC!!!
